2014年4月23日，欧盟发布（EU）No 399/2014号法规，批准短乳杆菌DSM 23231（Lactobacillus brevis DSM 23231）、短乳杆菌DSM 16680（Lactobacillus brevis DSMZ 16680）、植物乳杆菌CECT 4528（Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 4528）和发酵乳杆菌NCIMB 30169（Lactobacillus fermentum NCIMB 30169）作为饲料添加剂使用。该法规自公布二十日起生效。
